0:01 searched SEO questions on Google. My
0:04 name is Caleb Alu and I run a
0:06 sevenfigure AI powered SEO agency. So
0:09 without further ado, let's get straight
0:11 to that first question. So what is SEO
0:13 marketing? SEO marketing is basically
0:16 ranking your business or your client's
0:18 businesses higher on Google search and
0:20 on AI search. Now, when we talk about
0:22 ranking on AI search, I like to use the
0:24 phrase that we're trying to get AI to
0:26 recommend your business because when AI
0:28 lists businesses, it usually feels more
0:30 like a recommendation. What is SEO
0:32 optimization? Well, SEO optimization is
0:34 like saying ATM machine. The O stands
0:37 for optimization, just like the M in ATM
0:40 machine stands for machine. What is SEO
0:43 for website? So, when you're doing SEO,
0:45 you're going to try to get a website to
0:47 rank historically. Like if we rewind to
0:49 2021 2022, we're trying to rank to the
0:52 top 10 spots. That's the first page of
0:54 Google search. Why the first page? Well,
0:56 there's a very old joke in SEO. Where's
0:59 the best place to hide a dead body? The
1:01 second page of Google search. If you're
1:03 not on the first page, no one's going to
1:04 find you. SEO for a website is about
1:07 getting to the first page. What is SEO
1:09 mean? Well, that's not the best grammar,
1:11 but SEO basically means search engine
1:14 optimization. So the search engine in
1:16 this case for most of the time is going
1:18 to be Google itself. Historically we
1:20 could have done SEO for Alta Vista if
1:22 you're old enough to know what that
1:23 means. And now we can talk about doing
1:26 SEO for chat GPT but SEO is optimizing
1:30 for an algorithm for a device that's
1:33 trying to find things that people are
1:35 looking for on the internet. All right.
1:37 What is SEO writing? SEO writing is
1:40 writing content that's designed to help
1:42 you rank on Google search, help you get
1:44 recommended by chat GPT and other AI
1:46 devices and help the user know that they
1:49 are in the right place. When someone
1:52 searches for something and clicks on a
1:53 result or gets recommended something
1:55 from chat GPT, if they go to that result
1:57 and then immediately hit back, you're
1:59 going to lose rank position. So, you
2:01 really need to write for three audiences
2:03 simultaneously. Google AI and users.
2:07 What is SEO and SEM? So SEO, search
2:10 engine optimization, it's ranking on
2:11 Google for organic search. SEM that
2:14 stands for search engine marketing. So
2:16 search engine marketing is going to be
2:18 spending money to show up on top of
2:20 Google search results, whether that's
2:22 local or non-local. What is SEO and GEO?
2:25 So SEO is historically we might think
2:28 about SEO like ranking on Google. GEO,
2:31 generative engine optimization is what
2:33 that stands for. It's basically
2:34 optimizing for AI systems. Luckily, if
2:37 you do SEO correctly, you're like 80% of
2:40 the way toward doing GEO correctly. So,
2:42 there's a lot of overlap between these
2:44 different fields. All right, let's check
2:46 another one. Let's just type is SEO.
2:49 Is SEO free? So, that depends on if
2:52 you're the one doing it and you don't
2:54 value your time. SEO takes time. SEO
2:56 takes effort. We need to produce content
2:59 that gets Google and the AI engines to
3:02 understand what you are, what you're
3:04 about, what entities you do, what
3:05 services you provide. And then we need
3:08 to build trust with both Google and
3:10 those AI models. With the AI systems,
3:12 we're building trust through mentions.
3:14 So, if you can write the content, get
3:16 backlinks, get mentions free, then yes,
3:19 SEO can be free. But a lot of people
3:21 struggle to do all of that for free. So,
3:23 they end up paying for it, whether
3:24 they're hiring an agency or paying for
3:26 all of the individual pieces of it all a
3:28 cart. Is SEO dead? Well, I'm obviously
3:32 slightly biased here as an SEO
3:33 practitioner, but no. Every quarter,
3:36 Google is reporting record search
3:38 volume, including the last quarter of
3:40 2025. As we do SEO for Google, that also
3:42 helps you get recommended by AI systems.
3:45 So, SEO is becoming more and more
3:47 valuable. Every 6 to 12 months, it feels
3:50 like something changes in the industry
3:51 and everyone declares that SEO is dead.
3:54 But really, I mean, SEO changes. It
3:56 morphs. What we did in 1998 to rank on
3:59 Ulta Vista is not what we're doing in
4:01 2026 to get Chat GPT to recommend you. I
4:04 would still call both of those things
4:06 SEO. Is SEO worth it? Absolutely. When
4:09 we talk about running ads, most people
4:11 will not click on an ad. An ad
4:13 conversion rate is maybe 5%. And if we
4:16 look at a local business, the top three
4:18 results for a local search, they're
4:21 going to get 60 to 70% of the traffic.
4:23 Often the top player is going to be the
4:26 one that has the most reviews or the
4:28 highest quality reviews and they're
4:30 going to get the lion share of that.
4:31 What that means is for a search like
4:33 plumber Houston, you can have a sevenf
4:36 figureure business by just ranking in
4:38 the top three for the search plumber
4:41 Houston. It is one of the best return on
4:43 investments you can do in online
4:45 marketing as long as you do enough to
4:48 get to the first page. So what the first
4:50 page means for local is the top three.
4:52 For non-local it means the top 10 or
4:54 more likely being cited in the AI
4:56 overview. The challenge with SEO is if
4:59 you do a whole bunch of work and you go
5:01 from page nine to page two, you're not
5:04 going to get any additional traffic. No
5:06 one goes past the first page. So, if
5:08 you're not going to do enough SEO to get
5:11 to the first page or the top three for
5:13 local, then you should do nothing. Half
5:16 measures are a waste of time and money
5:18 in SEO. So, it's worth it if you do
5:20 enough to get to the top. Otherwise,
5:21 skip it. Is SEO a good career? Well, I'm
5:24 also pretty biased here, but I'd say
5:26 yes. If you're getting started in SEO,
5:28 then, you know, learning the basics of
5:30 it. It's not rocket science. It's about
5:32 producing content that algorithms can
5:34 read and content that users will
5:36 recognize and convert on. Once you can
5:39 start to learn that, it's really a
5:41 handful of clients. Most SEO clients are
5:44 $1,000 a month to $3,000 a month. So,
5:47 five to 10 clients is enough to give you
5:49 a six-figure business. Most people know
5:52 enough people in their network or one
5:55 step removed from their network to get
5:57 those first five to 10 clients and
5:59 really knock it out of the park, get
6:01 their ranking better. And that's a solid
6:04 way to start to build that six-figure
6:06 income. Is SEO easy to learn? To this
6:08 one, I would say yeah, it's pretty easy
6:10 to understand the basics of SEO. It's
6:12 pretty easy to get to a point where you
6:14 understand what you're trying to do and
6:16 why you're trying to do it. One of the
6:18 challenges here is a lot of SEO gurus
6:20 make SEO sound as complicated as
6:22 possible with the goal that instead of
6:24 doing SEO yourself, you'll just hire
6:26 them. Admittedly, Google is also
6:28 somewhat to blame here. Google wants you
6:31 to pay for ads. That's how Alphabet,
6:34 Google's parent company, makes something
6:36 like 80 or 90% of its revenue, right?
6:38 They're a multi-t trillion dollar
6:39 company because people pay for ads. If
6:42 everyone could do SEO and then not have
6:45 to pay for ads, well, that's bad for
6:46 Alphabet. So, a lot of what Google does
6:49 also feels like it's to make it harder
6:51 to do this organically, to do good SEO
6:54 and then get business that way. But SEO,
6:57 it's not rocket science. We just make
6:59 sure that we're going to write content
7:00 both for users and for the algorithms
7:03 and then resource trust for those
7:05 algorithms to believe that we are who we
7:07 say we are and do what we say we're
7:09 going to do. Is SEO important? Well, I
7:12 guess that depends on what you mean by
7:13 important. So, if you're a local small
7:16 business, then SEO can certainly help
7:18 your business grow very quickly. But
7:20 depending on how large of an area you're
7:22 in, how big it is, how many competitors,
7:23 how many other businesses, it can be
7:25 expensive, timeconuming to do SEO in
7:28 order to get into the top three. And
7:30 like I said, if you're not doing enough
7:31 to get into the top three, you should
7:33 skip SEO. Don't just do a little bit.
7:35 You have to go all the way or not at
7:37 all. There are a lot of businesses that
7:38 can be quite successful not doing SEO.
7:41 For example, a business like Apple,
7:43 right? If you look at Apple's website,
7:44 their SEO is pretty terrible. They
7:46 really only rank for branded terms. And
7:48 any idiot in SEO can rank for branded
7:51 terms. But Apple doesn't really rank for
7:53 smartphone or non-branded, but that's
7:55 because their brand strength is so
7:57 strong that frankly they don't need to.
8:00 So, I know it's not super satisfying,
8:02 but my answer to this question would be
8:03 it depends. If people are looking for
8:06 your service, you can get in front of
8:09 them with SEO. I'll put it that way. Is
8:11 SEO worth it for small businesses? I've
8:14 answered this one. The short version of
8:15 this answer is yes. As long as you make
8:18 sure you're doing enough to get into the
8:19 top three, don't take half measures.
8:21 Either do SEO and get into the top three
8:24 or do nothing. Don't go halfway, you
8:26 won't make it. Is SEO still relevant in
8:28 2025? Yes, SEO very much still relevant
8:31 in 2025 and in 2026. And I don't see
8:34 this changing anytime soon. Google
8:36 search volume higher than ever. Google
8:38 earnings higher than ever. It seems like
8:40 there's this pattern where people will
8:41 ask Chat GPT a question for a
8:43 recommendation. And then they're going
8:45 to take that recommendation and go on
8:47 Google to verify it. So people are
8:49 double dipping between chat GPT and
8:51 Google. SEO is fundamentally about
8:54 building the trust. So the algorithm
8:56 knows what your business does based on
8:59 what the algorithm can find online.
9:01 whether that algorithm is Google or
9:02 chatgpt or claude or grock or pick
9:05 whatever algorithm you want. So yes, it
9:08 is still very relevant and will continue
9:10 to be very relevant pretty much as long
9:12 as I could see into the future. Is SEO
9:14 hard? No, SEO is not hard. There aren't
9:16 like huge massive technical details that
9:19 most people need to get correct in terms
9:21 of SEO, right? Most people when they're
9:24 doing SEO, they're not like competing
9:26 against Amazon, right? If you're
9:27 competing against Amazon, then yes, SEO
9:30 will be hard. But when a lot of people
9:32 are talking about SEO, they're trying to
9:34 rank their local plumbing business or
9:36 they're trying to rank their air duct
9:37 cleaning business. In that case, you
9:39 don't need to be perfect. You just need
9:41 to be better than Joe the plumber down
9:42 the street. All right, let's try another
9:44 one. I'll just type in SEO and let's see
9:45 what we get. SEO tools. Oh, this is a
9:47 good one. There are so many SEO tools
9:50 and most of them are a complete and
9:53 obnoxious waste of time. We don't need
9:54 very many tools to do SEO successfully.
9:57 to do SEO well. Especially if we're
9:59 talking about local SEO, we don't even
10:01 really need things like domain ratings,
10:03 domain authority. We don't need to worry
10:05 about those things because they're just
10:07 not very important for local SEO. And
10:09 non-local SEO, again, a lot of these
10:11 tools just aren't very important.
10:13 Non-local SEO is really getting taken
10:15 over by the AI overview and other AI
10:17 systems, especially non-localformational
10:20 type searches. Most of the time, you
10:22 really just don't need expensive or
10:24 fancy SEO tools. Even at my agency, we
10:26 only use a handful. There's a video I
10:29 did a year or so ago where I talk about
10:30 the exact tools that we use in my
10:32 agency. But yeah, you don't need to go
10:34 crazy with SEO tools. Please don't. It's
10:36 going to be a waste of time and money.
10:38 In my opinion, researching tools is a
10:41 really easy way to make yourself feel
10:43 like you're doing work and growing your
10:45 business, but you're just wasting your
10:46 time. Instead of evaluating tools, you
10:49 should be trying to get clients. Okay,
10:50 so we had a couple of good ones about
10:52 local SEO. Let's see what else we have.
10:53 Local SEO services. That's somebody
10:55 looking for an agency. Local SEO
10:57 meaning. So this is interesting. So when
10:58 I think about local SEO, the way I
11:00 define local SEO is local SEO is SEO if
11:04 there is a map results after you search,
11:07 right? So if I type in for example,
11:09 plumber New Orleans, then I get this map
11:12 result. Okay? And these are three Google
11:15 business profiles. Any search where a
11:17 GBP is shown in this map pack is a local
11:20 search. Now, so what that means, so
11:23 that's plumbing New Orleans. So, if I
11:24 search for like yacht rental Dubai,
11:28 which is, I don't know, 3,000 mi away,
11:30 and I can scroll down here, and here I
11:32 can see GBPs as the results. So, I would
11:35 also consider Yacht Rental Dubai to be
11:38 local SEO. Local SEO, any SEO where
11:41 we're trying to rank the GBP and not the
11:43 website. All right, let's keep going.
11:45 Local SEO agency, that would be an
11:47 agency that helps to do that. Local SEO
11:49 tools. I talked about tools briefly. The
11:51 big tool that we need for local SEO is a
11:54 tool that helps you manage the Google
11:56 business profile. We want to do upload
11:58 photos on a regular basis. We want to do
11:59 GBP posts on a regular basis. We want to
12:01 reply to reviews. We want to keep the
12:03 GBP active. Uh we can do that manually,
12:06 but there are a lot of pretty good GBP
12:08 management tools out there that aren't
12:10 very expensive that will do a lot of
12:11 this automatically with AI. And you
12:14 know, we just don't need to worry about
12:15 it once we get all the the tools set up
12:18 and humming along with AI. That's pretty
12:20 much the only real tool that we use for
12:23 local SEO beyond some of the AI tools
12:26 like Claude. All right, local SEO
12:28 companies. I'm guessing this is very
12:29 similar to local SEO agency or services,
12:31 local SEO help. Well, if you need help
12:33 with local SEO, I'm a little bit biased
12:36 here, but I'd recommend you check out
12:37 this guy Caleb Ulku's YouTube channel.
12:39 All right, local SEO guide. I think it's
12:41 like a 48 minute video I did, which is
12:44 almost everything I know about local
12:46 SEO. Uh, so check that out. Local SEO
12:48 heat map. I don't know where this
12:49 phrasing came from. I don't think it's
12:50 actually a heat map, but a local SEO
12:53 heat map, that is a rank map. So, let me
12:56 show you what a rank map is and why it's
12:59 so important for local SEO. It shows us
13:02 exactly where this business is ranked.
13:04 One, two, or three of being the most
13:06 important. And if we're four, four is
13:08 the first loser because no one ever sees
13:09 the fourth position. So, this shows us
13:11 exactly where this business is ranked
13:13 for whatever keyword we ran this local
13:15 rank mac for. And we do this every other
13:18 week at minimum for all of our clients.
13:21 This tells us everything we need to know
13:22 and exactly what we need to do to get
13:24 this business to rank higher in local
13:26 search. So for this business, if I'm
13:28 looking at these fours here, then I'm
13:30 going to come in here and I'm going to
13:32 produce geographic relevance content to
13:34 try to convince Google that I do this
13:37 service at this location. we look at a
13:39 local business or whether it's our
13:40 client or a prospect, the one of the
13:42 first things we're always going to do is
13:44 run the local rank map to get an idea of
13:47 what they need, where they're at, and
13:49 what the path forward is to get them to
13:50 rank higher. The local rank map is one
13:53 of the most important tools in local SEO
13:56 and honestly one of the only tools we
13:58 use regularly other than the GVP
14:00 management software that I mentioned.
14:01 All right, let me do a quick search for
14:02 SEO and see if we can find any people
14:05 also ask questions. A lot of people know
14:07 this, but if you didn't, uh, when you
14:08 get people also ask questions, you can
14:10 just click and open and close it, and it
14:11 gets more and more people also ask
14:13 questions. All right, how to do SEO for
14:16 beginners. Produce the correct content.
14:18 Content that Google is looking for,
14:19 content that Chat GPT is looking for,
14:21 and content that your users are looking
14:23 for. Produce that content. Then source
14:26 the trust that Google and the generative
14:29 AI engines need to trust that content.
14:32 That's fundamentally SEO. We want to
14:34 produce the right content. and then uh
14:36 find trust to support that content. Boy,
14:38 what is an SEO salary? What is 67 to
14:41 $70,000? That's actually pretty good,
14:44 pretty close. So, most agencies that I
14:46 know of, they're just getting off of the
14:47 ground. 100 to 150k a year is pretty
14:50 common for a oneperson agency. And if
14:53 they're running a 50ish% net margin,
14:56 then that'll get them right in this
14:58 range for salary. So, that one makes
15:00 sense. Can SEO be selftaught? It can be.
15:03 There are some eccentricities about SEO.
15:05 So, I learned SEO through a combination
15:07 of self-eing. I also bought an insane
15:10 number of SEO courses and my team and I
15:13 also did a lot of split tests to see
15:16 exactly what Google's algorithm is
15:17 actually looking for. So, a split test
15:19 in SEO, we might have 10 Google business
15:22 profiles. Uh, let's do thing A to five
15:25 of them, thing B to the other five, and
15:27 then we'll watch those 10 rank maps and
15:29 see which of those five get better.
15:31 thing A5 or thing B5. That tells us
15:34 whether A or B helps more in Google's
15:37 algorithm. Can chat GPT do SEO? No, I
15:40 don't think it can. At least not yet.
15:41 Chat GPT will often give you advice that
15:44 feels correct, but doesn't actually help
15:46 you with SEO. Let's see what the PAA
15:48 says. Well, okay. Yes, Chat GPT can help
15:51 you stream a lot of individual tasks
15:53 like this. And I would agree with that.
15:55 We use Chat GPT. We use Claude to help
15:57 us with a lot of these individual tasks.
15:59 I would say that it can't help us figure
16:02 out what the overall strategy for SEO is
16:05 and that's what it says right here not a
16:06 replacement for human expertise. So if I
16:08 said can chat GBT do SEO my response is
16:11 no it's not a replacement for human
16:13 expertise so it can't do SEO but it can
16:16 certainly help you do a lot of these
16:18 individual tasks much faster and that's
16:20 what we use at chat GPT or claude or
16:22 other AI tools to help us with specific
16:24 tasks. So we know that we want like
16:27 content research or we want a user
16:30 intent analysis then yes we can use
16:32 claude we can use chat GPT to get that
16:34 content to get that user analysis done
16:37 quickly and reasonably accurately. But
16:39 if I'm going to go to claude or chat GPT
16:42 and give it a URL and say what do I need
16:44 to do to rank higher every time I've
16:46 done that the advice that I get is
16:48 basically trash and not worth paying
16:49 attention to. Can I learn SEO in 3
16:51 months? Yeah, you can learn SEO in 3
16:53 months. Absolutely. So, let's just type
16:55 in maybe some big tools and see what
16:57 people are asking about. Like Google
16:59 Search Console. Google Search Console
17:00 versus Google Analytics. This is a
17:02 common question I get a lot. So, Google
17:04 Search Console will tell you how many
17:05 clicks your website got from Google
17:07 Search. Google Analytics will tell you
17:10 how many times somebody visited your
17:11 website. So, for example, somebody
17:14 searches for something on Google search,
17:16 clicks through to your website,
17:17 bookmarks it, and then visits your
17:19 website 10 more times over the next 6
17:21 months. Google Search Console will count
17:23 that as one click because they clicked
17:25 on your website once from Google itself.
17:27 And the Google Analytics will count that
17:29 as 11 sessions because they clicked
17:31 once, bookmarked it, and then visited 10
17:34 more times. So that's the difference
17:35 between search console and analytics.
17:37 Analytics will give you a lot more
17:39 information about what people are doing
17:40 when they get to your website. Search
17:42 console will just tell you how they got
17:44 there from Google search. Search console
17:46 for SEO. Great. Talked about that. API,
17:48 accountification tools, logo app, great.
17:50 Okay, let's talk about Google business
17:52 profile manager support helps
17:56 create. All right, so to create a Google
17:58 business profile, probably 90% of the
18:00 time in the last few years, creating a
18:02 Google business profile comes down to
18:04 video verification. So this means that
18:06 if you want a Google business profile,
18:08 Google is going to ask you to record a
18:10 video that proves you have control over
18:13 that location and that that location is
18:16 where you say it is. recording the
18:18 Google verification video can be a a
18:20 pain. It can be difficult to squeeze
18:22 everything in in like the 2 minutes or
18:24 so that you have, but they're very
18:26 effective. Uh in my school group, I have
18:28 a link in the description. There's a
18:30 step-by-step checklist what we've done
18:32 to get a couple hundred GBPs live and
18:35 verified. Uh you can join the school
18:36 group, grab that checklist, and uh see
18:38 how we get GBPs verified. And Google
18:40 Business Profile support phone number.
18:42 Sadly, there is no longer a phone
18:43 number. You can go to Google Business
18:45 Profile support and request a call back.
18:48 Uh that's harder than it used to be, but
18:51 you still can do that, but there's no
18:52 phone number that you can call. And if
18:54 you want to call Google or have them
18:56 call you back, request a call back to
18:58 complain about your rankings, they're
18:59 just going to say that rankings
19:00 fluctuate and you're not going to get
19:02 anywhere. In order to get uh good
19:04 results from a Google business profile
19:06 support, you need to have a very clear
19:09 idea of the issue, what you need them to
19:12 help you with, what you need them to
19:14 fix, what you need them to check on. But
19:16 you can't complain about your ranking.
19:17 They'll just immediately shut down and
19:19 say ranking is variable and they'll stop
19:21 helping you. All right, those are all
